Welcome to the 20th Oxford Human Rights Festival

The Oxford Human Rights Festival launches on the 11th March with the annual Nabeel Hamdi Lecture given by Yasmeen Lari, the first female architect in Pakistan and the recent recipient of the prestigious Fukuoka Prize (2016) and the Jane Drew Prize (2020), the latter awarded by the Architect's Journal in honour of the English modernist architect, Jane Drew.

Dr Supriya Akerkar, the new Director of Centre of Development and Emergency Practice (CENDEP) has this to say about the festival this year,

"A warm welcome to the 20th annual Oxford Human Rights Festival! This year’s theme is ‘Movement’ which aptly captures the experiences of millions of people around the world, affected by climate change, conflict, wars and disasters. People are on a move as they are displaced from resources and places. Listening to their stories, extending solidarity with their struggles, we claim our shared humanity and futures. The festival is a platform to highlight human rights violations and injustices, reflect on them collectively and represent them in myriad ways through films, theatre, art, exhibitions, panel discussions, seminars and walks/march on the theme."
